Open Diamond Crochet Stitch is a beginner-friendly crochet pattern with lots of open spaces separated by stacked diamonds.
Made with basic crochet stitches, including chain, single crochet, and double crochet, it is a single row repeat pattern with each motif spread over 4 stitches.

Open Diamond Stitch Crochet Chart
This free pattern is written using US crochet terms.
|st (s)||stitch (es)|
diamond st –
- make 1dc in indicated st, ch1.
- working diagonally, make 3dc around the post of the dc last made.
Foundation ch: (Multiple of 4) + 1, plus 3 beg ch.
For example, start with (4 x 5) + 1 + 3 = 24 ch for a sample swatch.
|Row 1 (RS):||1 [diamond st] in 6th ch from hook, * sk next 3 ch, 1 [diamond st] in next ch; rep from * to last 2 sts, sk next ch, 1dc in last ch, turn.|
|Row 2:||ch3, * 1 [diamond st] in the top dc of diamond st from prev row; rep from * to t-ch, 1dc in t-ch, turn.|
Repeat Row 2 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
