Zigzag Columns Crochet Stitch features a zigzag arrangement of shell stitches separated by columns of double crochet stitches. It’s an openwork crochet pattern with simple stitches, chains, single crochet, and double crochet.

Pattern Instructions
Foundation ch: (any multiple of 10) + 3, plus 1.
| Row 1 (RS): | 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * 1sc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn. |
| Row 2: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 2 sc, * sk next 2 sc, 5dc in next sc, ch2, sk next 4 sc, 1dc in next 3 sc; rep from * to end, turn. |
| Row 3: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 2 dc, * sk next ch2-sp, 5dc in next dc, ch2, sk next 4 dc, 1dc in next 3 dc; rep from * to end making the last dc on top of t-ch, turn. |
| Row 4: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 2 dc, * sk next ch2-sp, 5dc in next dc, ch2, sk next 4 dc, 1dc in next 3 dc; rep from * to end making the last dc on top of t-ch, turn. |
Repeat Rows 3 & 4 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
