Textured Scallops Crochet Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar

Textured Scallops crochet stitch creates a highly textured, three-dimensional pattern that looks somewhat like a Crocodile Stitch. The overlapping rows of raised ‘scallops’ are like scales but with too much texture.

The crocheted fabric is really thick and the ‘scale’-like motifs really stand out from the background, creating a sculptural texture. Overall, it is warm, cozy, and highly decorative stitch. It does eat up too much yarn so that’s one thing to note.

Repeating over 8 stitches and 2 rows, this pattern has lots of post stitches, giving it a three dimensional appearance. Decorative projects like cushions and other home decor items are great options for this pattern.

Pattern Instructions

Foundation ch: (Multiple of 8) + 1, plus 1 beg ch.
For example, start with (8 x 3) + 1 + 1 = 26 ch for a sample swatch.

Row 1 (RS):	1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch3, sk next 3 ch, 1sc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 2:	ch3 (counts as 1dc), * 5dc in next ch3-sp; rep from * to last sc, 1dc in last sc, turn.
Row 3:	ch1, 1sc in 1st dc, * ch3, 1 x [fpdc-10-tog] over next 10 dc, ch3, 1sc in next sc; rep from * to last 10 dc, ch3, 1 x [fpdc-10-tog] over next 10 dc, ch3, 1sc in t-ch, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
