Open Shell Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar

Open Shell Crochet Stitch is an elegant, open, and lacy pattern that is easy to make. Unlike most other variations of crochet shell stitches like the Solid Shell Crochet Stitch, this one is open and has a less cluttered and dense appearance.

The lacy crochet pattern is basically a 2-row repeat, mainly featuring double crochet stitches. It’s a good stitch to expand your portfolio with if you are just starting to crochet.

Open Shell will make a gorgeous summer top, lacy wrap, or even a lacy throw blanket. It may even work well in market bags if you use a sturdy thread or yarn.

Pattern Instructions

Foundation ch: (any multiple of 7) + 1, plus 4 beg ch.

Row 1 (RS):	1dc in 5th ch from hook (counts as 1dc & ch1), * ch4, sk next 6 ch, [1dc, ch3, 1dc] in next ch; rep from * to last 7 sts, ch4, sk next 6 ch, [1dc, ch1, 1dc] in last ch, turn.
Row 2:	ch3 (counts as 1dc), 3dc in first ch1-sp, * sk 1 dc, 1sc in next ch4-sp, sk 1 dc, 7dc in next ch3-sp; rep from * to last 6 sts, sk 1 dc, 1sc in next ch4-sp, sk 1 dc, 3dc in top of t-ch, 1dc in 2nd ch of t-ch, turn.
Row 3:	ch4 (counts as 1dc & ch1), 1dc in same st, * ch4, sk next 7 sts, [1dc, ch3, 1dc] in 4th dc of the 7-dc shell; rep from * to last 7 sts, ch4, sk next 7 sts, [1dc, ch1, 1dc] in top of t-ch, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
