Crochet & Knit for International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is soon, and today we want to talk about how to celebrate it through crochet and knit.
What is International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is a day that celebrates the social, economic, political, and cultural achievements of women all over the world. Celebrated for more than 100 years, this day is all about celebrating women and encouraging equality and respect between all genders.
International Women’s Day is a UN-sanctioned global holiday. It is celebrated on March 8 every year. The celebration of the day started in America in 1909 when the Socialist Party of America honored garment workers and took to the streets. These garment workers were protesting against inhumane working conditions.
Feminism isn’t about making women strong. Women are already strong. It’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.

International Women’s Day 2021
The International Women’s Day theme for 2021 is #ChooseToChallenge. It highlights the importance of losing biases and misconceptions to create a more inclusive and gender-equal world. We are all responsible for our thoughts and actions and we can choose to challenge gender bias and inequality. Collectively we can all help to create an inclusive world.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2021 issued by the UN is “Women in Leadership: Achieving An Equal Future in A COVID-19 World”.
It celebrates the tremendous efforts of women and girls all around the world in shaping the world as we are recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. They are working towards a more equal future and recovery.
Women and Men who Knit and Crochet
Knit and crochet are traditionally considered a woman’s craft. They have a long history from a time where women shunned it because they did not want to be too girly to women reclaiming the beautiful craft.
But, the craft of knit and crochet is not just about women. It is also about the men who challenge the gender norms by choosing to knit and crochet. And special kudos to those who do so in public!
It is also a day to celebrate the trade organizations that are helping women all around the world by giving them livable wages for their crochet and knit works.

Last year LoveCrafts celebrated International Women’s Day with the exclusive pattern collection ‘Today’s Inspiring Women‘. With this kit, you can make your very own iconic and fearless woman who inspires you! They had kits to make dolls of Meghan Markle, Greta Thunberg, Malala, and others.
