Enjoying a spa day out isn’t possible right now, but why not enjoy it right from the comfort and safety of your home! You can pamper yourself at home without worrying about anything else and feel fabulous. And, right now, we can all use the stress-relieving benefits of a spa day with a DIY Spa Set that includes a Bath Pouf!
We made a Dreamsicle Spa Set that can help in the much-needed pampering! For this week, we are sharing a free crochet pattern for a Bath Pouf. It is the first pattern in the Dreamsicle Spa Set series. There are three more patterns to look forward to in the series, including a washcloth, soap saver, and face scrubbie.
Over the next three weeks, we will release one new free crochet pattern to make up the complete Dreamsicle Spa Set. Here’s the line up:
Bath Pouf / Loofah
Bath Pouf has many other names like a loofah, bath sponge, bath puff, body scrubbie, shower pouf, and shower sponge. But, whatever you call it, it’s the same thing.
A bath pouf in your home spa experience is a must-have as a simple 20-minute relaxing bath can work wonders on your stress levels!
The crochet Bath Pouf is simple to make and beginner-friendly pattern. You only need to know the four basic stitches of crochet – chain, single crochet, double crochet, and slip stitch. The Bath Pouf is made on only three rounds, so it is not as time-consuming.
The Bath Pouf free crochet pattern uses a cotton yarn that makes it super absorbent and durable. The Pouf is also re-useable and eco-friendly as compared to most of the commercially available bath poufs. You can use it countless times and launder it for cleaning with gentle soap and the cold water cycle in a laundry bag.
Unlike other crochet patterns for bath poufs, this pattern requires less than one skein of Lily Sugar Cream yarn. The worsted weight cotton yarn gives the Bath Pouf a soft and absorbent texture without making it heavy and bulky. It is gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin.
The Bath Pouf is not only an excellent addition to your own at-home spa set but can also be a part of a gift set. Combine it with the rest of the Dreamsicle Spa Set or with some fancy shower gel and body lotion for a lovely homemade gift set. And with the holiday season right around the corner, let’s get to making this spa-themed gift set! Something handmade will be appreciated over something store-bought at Christmas!!
Size of Finished Bath Pouf
The finished Bath Pouf measures 4” (or 10 cm) in diameter with a circumference of 12″ (or 30.5 cm). The string for hanging is 5″ (or 12.5 cm) long.
- 4.5 mm (US 7) crochet hook from Clover
- Any worsted weight (medium / #4 / 8-ply) cotton yarn in the color of your choice. I used Lily Sugar n Cream in Creamsicle color. This yarn is a good choice as it is 100% cotton and has a huge variety of colors to suit your taste.
- Tapestry needle to weave in the ends
10 sts = 2.75″ (or 7.0 cm) in single crochet
- The pattern is written in US terms.
- Starting ch 3 always counts as a stitch.
- The pouf will take its shape as you proceed with Rows 2 & 3. The large increases of double crochet in every stitch form the curls of the pouf.
- It is preferable to use a cotton yarn as it will be soft on your skin and of course, it’s good for the environment!
|sl st||slip stitch|
|st (s)||stitch (es)|
You can check out the standard crochet abbreviations on our blog.
Starting with a magic ring, ch 40, sl st into the ring. (This is the string for the bath pouf.)
Row 1: ch 1, 23 sc in the magic ring, sl st into beg sc. (23 sc)
Note: Make sure you weave in the ends from the magic ring after this row as it will become extremely difficult to access the center of the pouf once the remaining rows are completed.
Row 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), 4dc into same st, * 5dc in next st; rep from * around, sl st into 3rd ch from the starting ch 3. (115 dc)
Row 3: rep Row 2. (575 dc)
Fasten off and weave in the ends.
There are loads of stitches in the three rounds that make the texture of the Bath Pouf puffy. They will be difficult to count, so it’s alright if you accidentally miss a stitch here or there.
The Bath Pouf will also make an excellent gift on many different occasions. It is perfect as a birthday gift, Mother’s Day gift, retirement gift, Teacher’s Appreciation gift, or even a ‘just because’ gift for someone you love.
