Claw with Bobbles is a variation of the basic Claw knitting stitch, with addition of bobbles on the central spine of the claw. The pattern repeats over 4 rows only but the bobble part might take some getting used to! And just like the Claw stitch, there are two variations possible-Upwards and Downwards-facing claw.

The pattern is perfect for featuring it as a focus centerpiece in a pullover, or if you like home decor projects more, this will look especially gorgeous in a pillow or a cushion cover.

This free knitting pattern is written in US terms. You can also check out other common knitting abbreviations. 

CO	Cast on
C4L	Cross 4 Left (sl 1 to CN, hold in front, k3, k1 from CN)
C4R	Cross 4 Right (sl 3 to CN, hold in back, k1, k3 from CN)
k	Knit
p	Purl
RS	Right side
st (s)	Stitch (es)
WS	Wrong side

Special stitch:

bobble: Knit into front, back and front of next st, [turn, k3] twice, then pass 2nd and 3rd sts over the 1st st of this group.

Making cable stitches without using a cable needle:

C4R (Cross 4 Right) –

1. Slip next 3 stitches off the left needle, hold them in back of work
2. Transfer next stitch from left needle to right needle
3. Pick up the 3 slipped stitches on the left needle
4. Transfer the stitch from right needle back to left needle
5. Knit all 4 stitches

C4L (Cross 4 Left) –

1. Slip next stitch off the left needle, hold it in front of work
2. Transfer next 3 stitches from left needle to right needle
3. Pick up the slipped stitch on left needle
4. Transfer the 3 stitches from right needle back to left needle
5. Knit all 4 stitches

CO multiple of 9 sts for the panel and a few extra on both sides to make up the reverse stockinette st background. For example, you can cast on 4 (background) + 9 (panel) + 4 (background) = 17 stitches for a sample swatch. 

Downwards Claw with Bobbles

Row 1 of Panel (RS):	C4L, k1, C4R
Row 2 of Panel:	Purl.
Row 3 of Panel:	k4, bobble, k4.
Row 4 of Panel:	Purl.

Upwards Claw with Bobbles

Row 1 of Panel (RS):	C4R, k1, C4L
Row 2 of Panel:	Purl.
Row 3 of Panel:	k4, bobble, k4.
Row 4 of Panel:	Purl.
