CO a multiple of 3 stitches. For example, you can cast on 3 x 8 = 24 stitches to knit a sample swatch.

Row 1 (RS):	k2, * sl 1 purlwise, k2; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 2:	p3, * sl 1 purlwise, p2; rep from * to end.
Row 3:	k2, * C3L; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 4:	Purl.
Row 5:	k2, * yo, k2tog, k1; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 6:	Purl.
Row 7:	k4, * sl 1 purlwise, k2; rep from * to last 2 sts, sl 1 purlwise, k1.
Row 8:	p1, * sl 1 purlwise, p2; rep from * to last 2 sts, p2.
Row 9:	k2, * C3R; rep from * to last st, k1.
Row 10:	Knit.
Row 11:	Purl.
Row 12:	Purl.
