Acorn Crochet Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar
Acorn crochet stitch is a four-row, five-stitch repeat pattern that creates motifs essentially resembling the smooth oval nut, Scrat’s favorite (from Ice Age)! It is a simple stitch where all you need to know are single crochet and double crochet stitches. Each ‘acorn’ motif is made with 3-dc cluster.
The crocheted fabric has an amazing texture but it is a bit dense. So make sure you factor that into any project you plan using this stitch. We suggest trying out this pattern in making gorgeous market bags and purses.

Special stitches:
3dc-cl (3 double crochet cluster stitch) – [yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through stitch, yarn over and pull through 2 loops] x 3 times (4 loops should remain on the hook now), yarn over and pull through all remaining loops on the hook.
Pattern Instructions
Foundation ch: (Multiple of 5) + 1, plus 1 beg ch.
For example, start with (4 x 5) + 1 + 1 = 22 ch for a sample swatch.
| Row 1 (RS): | 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * 1sc in next ch; rep from * to end. |
| Row 2: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), sk next sc, * 3dc-cl in next sc, ch3, 3dc-cl in next sc, sk next 3 sc; rep from * to last 2 sc, sk next sc, 1dc in last sc, turn. |
| Row 3: | ch1, 1sc in 1st dc, * 1sc on top of 3dc-cl, 3sc in next ch3-sp, 1sc on top of 3dc-cl; rep from * to t-ch, 1sc in t-ch, turn. |
| Row 4: | ch4 (counts as 1dc and ch1), 3dc-cl in next sc, * sk next 3 sc, 3dc-cl in next sc, ch3, 3dc-cl in next sc; rep from * to last 5 sc, sk next 3 sc, 3dc-cl in next sc, ch1, 1dc in last sc, turn. |
| Row 5: | ch1, 1sc in 1st dc, 1sc in next ch1-sp, 1sc on top of 3dc-cl, * 1sc on top of 3dc-cl, 3sc in next ch3-sp, 1sc on top of 3dc-cl; rep from * to last 3dc-cl, 1sc on top of last 3dc-cl, 2sc in t-ch, turn. |
Repeat Rows 2 – 5 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
