Heart Ribbing Stitch is a highly textured knitting pattern featuring heart-shaped motifs stacked on a background of reverse stockinette stitches.
It adds a great bit of texture to any project. You can replace the regular ribbing with Heart Ribbing to give the project some feminity. The foundation of this rib knitting stitch is 3 x 2 stitches. It’s most suited for home decor projects with prominent vertical design elements.

|k2tog||Knit 2 stitches together|
|psso||Pass slipped stitch over|
|sl||Slip knitwise with yarn in front|
|st (s)||Stitch (es)|
- skip next st.
- insert needle into the next st 4 rows below and draw up a long loop by wrapping yarn around the needle as if to knit.
- going back to skipped st, knit next 3 sts.
- insert needle into the same st 4 rows below as in Step 2 and draw up another long loop by wrapping yarn around the needle as if to knit.
sl-loop: slip long loop with yarn in front
CO (Multiple of 5 stitches) + 2 stitches + 2 edge stitches. For example, you can cast on (5 x 4) + 2 + 2 = 24 stitches to knit a sample swatch.
|Row 1 (RS):||edge st, * p2, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, edge st.|
|Row 2:||edge st, k2, * p3, k2; rep from * to last st, edge st.|
|Row 3:||Rep Row 1.|
|Row 4:||Rep Row 2.|
|Row 5:||edge st, * p2, heart-loop; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, edge st.|
|Row 6:||edge st, k2, * sl-loop, p3, sl-loop, k2; rep from * to last st, edge st.|
|Row 7:||edge st, * p2, sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog; rep from * to last 3 sts, p2, edge st.|
|Row 8:||Rep Row 2.|
Repeat these free knitting pattern instructions (5 to 8 rows) until you have reached the desired length for your work. Rows 1 to 4 are the foundation rows.
