Basketweave Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar
Crochet Basketweave Stitch is the perfect stitch to create a fabric with a dense texture. As the name suggests, the stitch looks like a woven wicker basket. It’s a reversible stitch, so an excellent choice for projects where you can see both sides.
The Basketweave Crochet Stitch is worked over by repeating four rows of the pattern instructions. It mainly uses front and back post double crochet stitches (fpdc and bpdc) along with the double crochet (dc) stitches.
One thing to note about this stitch is that it works up a rather thick fabric, so if you’re planning to make some wearable, it’s better to go with light and medium-weight yarns. You can use bulky or super bulky yarns to make durable projects like a rug.

Pattern Instructions
Foundation ch: (Multiple of 6 ch) + 1 ch, plus 3 beg ch.
For example, start with (6 x 3) + 1 + 3 = 22 ch for a sample swatch.
| Row 1 (RS): | 1dc in 4th ch from hook, * 1dc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn. |
| Row 2: | ch2 (counts as 1dc), * 1fpdc in next 3 sts, 1bpdc in next 3 sts; rep from * to t-ch, 1dc in top of t-ch, turn. |
| Row 3: | Rep Row 2. |
| Row 4: | ch2 (counts as 1dc), * 1bpdc in next 3 sts, 1fpdc in next 3 sts; rep from * to t-ch, 1dc in top of t-ch, turn. |
| Row 5: | Rep Row 4. |
Repeat Rows 2 – 5 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
