The Column of Leaves is a botanically-inspired, classic lace knitting stitch that is easy to learn and beginner friendly.

This is a simple lace knitting pattern which is perfect for making scarves with the leaves featuring prominently in the design. You can use any yarn but a cotton yarn with accentuate the beauty of this gorgeous lacy leaf panel.

Pattern Instructions


CO multiple of 21 sts for the panel and a few extra on both sides to make up the stockinette st background. For example, you can cast on 4 (background) + 21 (panel) + 4 (background) = 29 stitches for a sample swatch. 

Note: There will be 23 stitches in the panel after every RS row & there will be 21 stitches in the panel after every WS row.

Row 1 of Panel (RS):k7, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, p1, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso, k7.
Row 2 of Panel:p6, p2tog tbl, p3, k1, p3, p2tog, p6.
Row 3 of Panel:k5, k2tog, k1, [yo, k1] x 2 times, p1, k1, [yo, k1] x 2 times, sl 1, k1, psso, k5.
Row 4 of Panel:p4, p2tog tbl, p5, k1, p5, p2tog, p4.
Row 5 of Panel:k3, k2tog, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, p1, k2, yo, k1, yo, k2, sl 1, k1, psso, k3.
Row 6 of Panel:p2, p2tog tbl, p7, k1, p7, p2tog, p2.
