Star Crochet Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar
Star Crochet Stitch creates an easy yet decorative and elegant pattern of what looks like a fireworks’ star burst. It creates a thick and squishy crochet fabric. But, it does use up a lot of yarn. The Daisy stitch is also a slight variation of this one.
Although the pattern looks complex, it is totally doable even if you are just starting out with crochet. It’s just a 2 row, 2 stitch repeat and is really quite simple.

Abbreviations
This free pattern is written using US crochet terms.

Special stitch:
beg-star-st: [insert hook in indicated st, yarn over, pull up a loop] x 5 times, pull through all 6 loops on hook.
star-st:
- Insert hook into the star eye of the prev star, yarn over and pull up a loop.
- Insert hook into the last spike of the prev star, yarn over and pull up a loop.
- Insert hook into the same st as the last st from prev star, yarn over and pull up a loop.
- [Insert hook in next st, yarn over and pull up a loop] x twice.
- Yarn over, pull through all 6 loops on hook, ch1.
Pattern Instructions
Foundation ch: Multiple of 2, plus 1 beg ch.
For example, start with (2 x 12) + 1 = 25 ch for a sample swatch.
| Row 1 (RS): | Starting from 2nd ch from hook, beg-star-st over next 5 ch, ch1 (called a star eye), * star-st; rep from * to last ch, 1hdc in last ch, turn. |
| Row 2: | ch2 (counts as 1hdc), * 2hdc in next star eye; rep from * to last st, 1hdc in last st, turn. |
| Row 3: | ch3, starting from 2nd ch from hook, beg-star-st over next 5 ch, ch1, * star-st; rep from * to t-ch, 1hdc in t-ch, turn. |
Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
