Knit with Aabhar – Slipped Cable Rib Stitch

Pattern Description


Slipped Cable Rib Stitch is a fun slip-stitch knitting pattern resembling a classic cable pattern. This mock cable knitting pattern looks quite a bit similar to Downwards Claw Stitch.

If you aren’t a fan of conventional cables, Slipped Cable Rib is a good alternative. It’s a simple knitting pattern, and easy to memorize the 6 rows of instructions. Despite it involving dropping slipped stitches and then picking them back up, it is an easy task. It may seem complex, but the slipped stitches stay in place, and you can easily pick them up.

Slipped Cable Rib stitch knitting pattern will work in any type of project, be it a pullover or a home decor project like a pillow.

Special stitches:

slip-left:

  1. drop next sl st off the left needle towards front of work
  2. k2
  3. pick up sl st with left needle & knit it

slip-right:

  1. slip next 2 stitches to right needle
  2. drop next sl st off the left needle towards front of work
  3. slip same 2 stitches from right needle back to left needle
  4. pick up sl st with left needle & knit it
  5. k2

Pattern Instructions


CO a (Multiple of 8 sts) + 2 sts. For example, you can cast on (8 x 3) + 2 = 26 stitches to knit a sample swatch.

Row 1 (WS):k2, * p6, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 2:p2, * sl 1 wyib, k4, sl 1 wyib, p2; rep from * to end.
Row 3:k2, * sl 1 wyif, p4, sl 1 wyif, k2; rep from * to end.
Row 4:Rep Row 2.
Row 5:Rep Row 3.
Row 6:p2, * slip-left, slip-right, p2; rep from * to end.

Repeat these free knitting pattern instructions (6 rows) until you have reached the desired length for your work.
