Folded Cable Knitting Stitch | Knit with Aabhar
Pattern Description
Folded Cable Stitch makes column of cables stacked on top of each other and separated by stockinette stitch. The cables are knitted on a reverse stockinette background. You can place as many cable repeats or feature a single cable in the knitted fabric. And you can choose the direction of cables that you want to knit, our swatch shows both orientations – upwards (left side cable) and downwards (right side cable).
You can use this knitting stitch in making projects like pillows, sweaters, or even laptop sleeves.

Making cable stitches without using a cable needle:
C3R (Cross 3 Right) –
- Slip next 2 stitches off the left needle, hold them in back of work
- Transfer next stitch from left needle to right needle
- Pick up the 2 slipped stitches on the left needle
- Transfer the stitch from right needle back to left needle
- Knit all 3 stitches
C3L (Cross 3 Left) –
- Slip next stitch off the left needle, hold it in front of work
- Transfer next 2 stitches from left needle to right needle
- Pick up the slipped stitch on left needle
- Transfer the 2 stitches from right needle back to left needle
- Knit all 3 stitches
Pattern Instructions
CO a multiple of 6 sts for the panel and a few extra on both sides to make up the reverse stockinette st background. For example, you can cast on 4 (background) + 6 (panel) + 4 (background) = 14 stitches for a sample swatch.
