Knit with Aabhar – Small Double Cable Stitch Pattern
Pattern Description
Small Double Cable Stitch creates a beautiful chain of small cables. It looks complicated but is quite simple to make. The name Double Cable comes from the fact that you knit two cables next to each other and it looks like they are intertwined.
The Small Double Cable Stitch is also commonly known as Horseshoe Cable Stitch or Wishbone Cable. This is because the twining chains sort of look like wishbones on a thread.
There are two variations of this cable pattern – Downwards Cable and Upwards Cable. And as the name suggests, the former looks like downwards facing ‘V’s stacked over each other while the latter looks like upright ‘V’s going up. Between the two types, only one row is different in the pattern and that’ll completely change the direction of the cables.
To knit the Downwards Cable you need to Cable over 4 stitches to the front (or C4F) followed by Cable over 4 stitches to the back (or C4B). For the Upwards Small Double Cable, you’ll need to first Cable over 4 stitches to the back (or C4B) followed by Cable over 4 stitches to the front (or C4F).
Essentially, in Double Cable, there is nothing complicated but two simple cables running in parallel, a right cable next to a left cable. To reverse the direction of the overall pattern, simply make a left cable first and then a right cable.
The Small Double Cable Stitch Pattern is small enough pattern that you can repeat in your project to give it an overall texture. It is definitely not a reversible pattern but it looks good on cup cozies, socks, leg warmers, and sweaters.
