
4-Stitch Cable Pattern | Knit with Aabhar
Pattern Description
4-Stitch Cable Pattern is a basic cable knitting pattern that is beginner-friendly. If you are just starting to learn to knit cable stitches, this cable pattern worked over four stitches and is an excellent choice to start with!
This cable pattern has two variations – Right Twist Cable and Left Twist Cable. Just as the name suggests, the Right Twist 4-Stitch Cable looks like it’s twisting towards the right, while the Left Twist 4-Stitch Cable twists to the left side. You can see the Right Twist Cable in the stitch chart.
To knit the Right Twist Cable, you need to Cable over 4 stitches to the back (or C4B), while for Left Twist Cable, you’ll need Cable over 4 stitches to the front (or C4F).
The 4-Stitch Cable Pattern can add texture and detail to any of your projects, be it scarves, socks, or sweaters. You can use it as an all-over cable pattern, as the knit cables are quite small.

Making cable stitches without using a cable needle:
C4B (Cable 4 Back, also called 2/2 Right Cross (2/2 RC))-
- Slip next 2 stitches off the left needle, hold them in back of work
- Transfer next 2 stitches from left needle to right needle
- Pick up the 2 slipped stitches on the left needle
- Transfer the 2 stitches from right needle back to left needle
- Knit all 4 stitches
C4F (Cable 4 Front, also called 2/2 Left Cross (2/2 LC))-
- Slip next 2 stitches off the left needle, hold them in front of work
- Transfer next 2 stitches from left needle to right needle
- Pick up the 2 slipped stitches on the left needle
- Transfer the 2 stitches from right needle back to left needle
- Knit all 4 stitches
Pattern Instructions
CO a panel of 4 stitches. For example, you can cast on two panels of 4 stitches each on a background of 2 stitches on each side, totaling 14 stitches (2 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 2).
