Puff Zigzag Crochet Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar
Puff Zigzag Crochet Stitch is an elegant one with puff stitches arranged in zigzag pattern on a double crochet background.
The crocheted fabric is textured and isn’t very airy. The pattern is simple once you get hang of 4hdc-puff, the most prominent stitch. The pattern repeats over 2 rows and 6 stitches.

Special stitch:
4hdc-puff: [Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over and pull through] x 4 times in the same stitch, yarn over and pull through 8 loops on hook, yarn over and pull through the remaining 2 loops on hook.
Pattern Instructions
Foundation ch: (Multiple of 6) + 4, plus 3 beg ch.
For example, start with (6 x 3) + 4 + 3 = 25 ch for a sample swatch.
| Row 1 (RS): | 1dc in 4th ch from hook, * 1dc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn. |
| Row 2: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 4 dc, * ch1, sk next dc, 1dc in next 5 dc; rep from * to end, making the last dc in t-ch, turn. |
| Row 3: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 4 dc, 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1dc in next dc, [4hdc-puff] in prev ch1-sp, ch1, * sk next dc, 1dc in next 3 dc, 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1dc in next dc, [4hdc-puff] in prev ch1-sp, ch1; rep from * to last 4 sts, sk next dc, 1dc in next 2 dc, 1dc in t-ch, turn. |
| Row 4: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 2 dc, 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1dc in top of [4hdc-puff] from prev row, [4hdc-puff] in prev ch1-sp, ch1, sk next dc, 1dc in next 3 dc, * 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1dc in top of [4hdc-puff] from prev row, [4hdc-puff] in prev ch1-sp, ch1, sk next dc, 1dc in next 3 dc; rep from * to last 2 sts, 1dc in next dc, 1dc in t-ch, turn. |
Repeat Rows 3 & 4 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
