Double Column Crochet Stitch features a repeating openwork texture made with alternating rows of double crochet and solid rows of single crochet stitches. The dc in back loop stitches create vertical bars with open spaces between them.

The open spaces contrast with the dense rows, creating a dimensional, ribbed texture. It is a 3 stitch repeat over 2 rows.

Pattern Instructions

Foundation ch: (Multiple of 3) + 2, plus 2 beg ch.
For example, start with (3 x 6) + 2 + 2 = 22 ch for a sample swatch.

Row 1 (RS):	1dc in 3rd ch from hook, 1dc in next ch, * ch1, sk next ch, 1dc in next 2 ch; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 2:	ch1, 1sc in 1st dc, 1sc in next dc, * 1sc in next ch1-sp, 1sc in next 2 dc; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 3:	ch2 (does not count as a st), 1dc in 1st sc, 1dc blo in next sc, * ch1, sk next sc, 1dc blo in next 2 sc; rep from * to end, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
