Stacked Grid Crochet Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar

Stacked Grid crochet stitch, as the name suggests, is a geometric pattern featuring grid-like boxes stacked over each other neatly.

While it looks deceptively simple, it isn’t so. Each of the vertical sides of the grid are made differently to give it a nice solid structure.

ch	chain
ch-sp	chain space(s)
dtr	double treble crochet
rep	repeat
sc	single crochet
sk	skip
st (s)	stitch (es)
yo	yarn over

Special stitches:

pillar-st-ch4:

1. Working in the ch4 as the base, yo, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, yo & pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
2. [yo, insert hook in next ch from hook, yo & pull up a loop] x 2 times (7 loops on hook).
3. yo, insert hook in next sc on the working row, yo & pull up a loop (9 loops on hook).
4. [yo & pull through 3 loops on hook] x 4 times.

pillar-st-dtr:

1. Working in the dtr as the base, yo, insert hook in 1st notch from hook, yo & pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
2. [yo, insert hook in next notch from hook, yo & pull up a loop] x 2 times (7 loops on hook).
3. yo, insert hook in next sc on the working row, yo & pull up a loop (9 loops on hook).
4. [yo & pull through 3 loops on hook] x 4 times.

Pattern Instructions

Foundation ch: (Multiple of 4) + 2, plus 1 beg ch.
For example, start with (4 x 6) + 2 + 1 = 27 ch for a sample swatch.

Row 1 (RS):	1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * 1sc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 2:	ch4 (counts as 1dtr), [pillar-st-ch4] in ch4 just made, * ch2, sk next 2 sc, 1dtr in next sc, [pillar-st-dtr] in dtr just made; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 3:	ch1, 1sc in 1st st, 1sc in next st, * 2sc in next ch2-sp, 1sc in next 2 sts; rep from * to end, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
