Special stitch:

3fptr-tog (3 front post treble crochet together):

  1. Yarn over twice, insert hook around the post of first stitch from front to back of the indicated group of stitches & pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 1st 2 loops on the hook twice.
  2. [Yarn over twice, insert hook around the post of next stitch from front to back of the indicated group of stitches & pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 1st 2 loops on the hook twice] x 2 times.
  3. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

5fptr-tog (5 front post treble crochet together):

  1. Yarn over twice, insert hook around the post of first stitch from front to back of the indicated group of stitches & pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 1st 2 loops on the hook twice.
  2. [Yarn over twice, insert hook around the post of next stitch from front to back of the indicated group of stitches & pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 1st 2 loops on the hook twice] x 4 times.
  3. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on hook.

Pattern Instructions


Foundation ch: (Multiple of 6) + 2, plus 3 beg ch.
For example, start with (6 x 3) + 2 + 3 = 23 ch for a sample swatch.

Row 1 (RS):1dc in 4th ch from hook, * 1dc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn.
Row 2:ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 2 dc, * ch1, [starting from prev dc, 5fptr-tog around next 5 dc], ch1, 1dc behind last leg of prev fptr-tog, 2dc in next 2 dc; rep from * to end making the very last dc in t-ch, turn.
Row 3:ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next 2 dc, 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1bpdc around next st, * 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1 dc in next 3 dc, 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1bpdc around next st; rep from * to last 4 sts, 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1dc in next 2 dc, 1dc in t-ch, turn.
Row 4:ch3 (counts as 1dc), 3fptr-tog around next 3 dc, * ch1, 1dc behind last leg of prev fptr-tog, 2dc in next 2 dc, ch1, [starting from prev dc, 5fptr-tog around next 5 dc]; rep from * to last 6 sts, ch1, 1dc behind last leg of prev fptr-tog, 2dc in next 2 dc, ch1, [starting from prev dc, 3fptr-tog around next 3 dc], 1dc in t-ch, turn.
Row 5:ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1bpdc around next st, * 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1 dc in next 3 dc, 1dc in next ch1-sp, 1bpdc around next st; rep from * to t-ch, 1dc in t-ch, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 – 5 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
