Foundation ch: (Multiple of 4) + 2, plus 3 beg ch.
For example, start with (4 x 5) + 2 + 3 = 25 ch for a sample swatch.

Row 1 (RS):	1dc in 4th ch from hook, * ch2, sk next ch, 1sc in next ch, ch2, sk next ch, 1dc in next ch; rep from * to last ch, 1dc in last ch, turn.
Row 2:	ch1, 1sc in 1st dc, 1sc in next dc, * ch3, 1sc in next dc; rep from * to t-ch, 1sc in t-ch, turn.
Row 3:	ch3 (counts as 1dc), 1dc in next sc, * ch2, 1sc in next ch3-sp, ch2, 1dc in next sc; rep from * to last sc, 1dc in last sc, turn.

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
