Alternate Single Crochet Stitch is an elegant, beginner-friendly, and easy-to-learn variation of the single crochet stitch. It’s a great way to spruce up the basic crochet stitch to provide more texture to the crochet project. Also, it is much more visually appealing than the basic front loop and back loop single crochet stitches.
The stitch is named Alternate Single Crochet as it is worked by alternating stitch placement of front loop (flo) and back loop (blo) single crochet stitches in a row. It adds more definition to the basic single crochet (sc) as it is independent of the stitch next to it. The stitch is worked over by repeating a single row with a 2-stitch repeat.
This simple crochet stitch is perfect for creating fabrics where you want some texture. It is also reversible which makes it a great choice for projects where both sides are exposed like blankets or washcloths.
