Box Checkerboard Crochet Stitch | Crochet with Aabhar
Box Checkerboard Crochet Stitch is visually similar to the Diagonal Checkerboard stitch but this one has more distinctive checkerboard pattern with squarish motifs inside.
The crochet stitch is simple and it repeats over 4 stitches and 4 rows.

Pattern Instructions
Foundation ch: (Multiple of 4) + 1, plus 1 beg ch.
For example, start with (4 x 5) + 1 + 1 = 22 ch for a sample swatch.
| Row 1 (RS): | 1sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch4, sk next 3 ch, 1sc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn. |
| Row 2: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), * 4dc in next ch4-sp, ch2, 1sc in next ch4-sp, ch2; rep from * to last ch4-sp, 4dc in last ch4-sp, 1dc in last sc, turn. |
| Row 3: | ch1, 1sc in 1st dc, * ch4, 1sc in next ch2-sp; rep from * to last ch2-sp, ch4, 1sc in t-ch, turn. |
| Row 4: | ch5 (counts as 1dc and ch2), 1sc in 1st ch4-sp, ch2, * 4dc in next ch4-sp, ch2, 1sc in next ch4-sp, ch2; rep from * to last ch4-sp, 1dc in last sc, turn. |
| Row 5: | ch1, 1sc in 1st ch2-sp, * ch4, 1sc in next ch2-sp; rep from * to last ch2-sp, ch4, 1sc in t-ch, turn. |
Repeat Rows 2 – 5 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
