CO a multiple of 8 stitches (minimum 16 sts). For example, you can cast on 8 x 3 = 24 stitches to knit a sample swatch.

| Row 2: | p1, * k2, p6; rep from * to last 7 sts, k2, p5. |
| Row 3: | k4, * p4, k6; rep from * to last 4 sts, p2, k2. |
| Row 4: | p3, * k2, p6; rep from * to last 5 sts, k2, p3. |
| Row 5: | k2, * p2, k6; rep from * to last 6 sts, p2, k4. |
| Row 6: | p5, * k2, p6; rep from * to last 3 sts, k2, p1. |
