Alpine Puff Crochet Stitch is a variation of puff stitch that almost looks like a version of Alpine stitch. It has a decent texture and the crocheted fabric is warm and cozy.
It’s not a very easy pattern as the ‘puff’ stitch isn’t the usual one. There’s some skill involved in making this motif. The pattern repeats over 2 stitches and 2 rows only, but will need a bit of a mastery.

Special stitch:
fp-2hdc-puff-st (front post 2hdc puff stitch):
- Yarn over, insert hook around the post of indicated stitch from right to left.
- Yarn over & pull up a loop. [3 loops on hook]
- Repeat Step 1 & 2 one more time. [5 loops on hook]
- Yarn over & pull through 4 loops. [2 loops on hook]
- Yarn over & pull through last 2 loops.
Pattern Instructions
Foundation ch: (Multiple of 2), plus 3 beg ch.
For example, start with (10 x 2) + 3 = 23 ch for a sample swatch.
| Row 1 (WS): | 1dc in 4th ch from hook, * 1dc in next ch; rep from * to end, turn. |
| Row 2: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), * 1 x fp-2hdc-puff-st in next dc, 1dc in next dc; rep from * to last 2 sts, 1 x fp-2hdc-puff-st in next dc, 1dc in t-ch, turn. |
| Row 3: | ch3 (counts as 1dc), * 1dc in next st, 1dc in next dc; rep from * to last 2 sts, 1dc in next st, 1dc in t-ch, turn. |
Repeat Rows 2 & 3 of this free crochet stitch pattern until you have reached the desired length for your work.
